Soft Scoliosis Bracing: One Promising Treatment Option

As we covered previously, for those who do require treatment, there are several options. If you suffer from scoliosis you are well aware of the negative impact it can have if left untreated for too long. Scoliosis is common and doesn’t have to be a problem if it’s properly addressed in a timely manner, particularly with a treatment option such as a soft scoliosis brace.

    Treatment Options

As long as the spinal curvature remains at or below twenty degrees, it shouldn’t require any treatment unless you choose to have something done. For a spinal curvature of twenty degrees or higher, you will want to seek treatment for the condition. You may want to seek treatment regardless of the degree of the curvature as well, though, if you feel self-conscious about your appearance. Also, as you get older, you become more inclined to suffer from chronic back pain if you grew up with scoliosis. Which is why scoliosis bracing is a good thing to undertake with adolescent scoliosis.

A Soft Scoliosis Brace: Effective, Tried, and True

Most scoliosis issues can be simply treated with a brace. The condition can also be managed by visiting a scoliosis chiropractor or dietary supplements. Some scoliosis sufferers have also used electrical muscle stimulation in an attempt to combat the disorder. These treatments are widely believed to be ineffective, but results depend on the individual.

Severe scoliosis can potentially require surgery, though this is rare as the condition is usually found early enough to prevent it from becoming that problematic. In some cases though, the condition progresses rapidly in childhood and requires a growing rod to be attached to the top and bottom sections of the spine. A spinal fusion may also be done to prevent the condition from becoming too severe.

    Soft Braces VS Hard Braces

Using a brace is the most common way to prevent the worsening of scoliosis. Braces fall into two main categories, static or hard and dynamic or soft. These two types of braces have some key differences.

Hard braces are currently considered the “standard of care” in the medical world for advanced scoliosis. They work by immobilizing the spine to stop the bones from deforming further. While this may sound like a good idea, hard braces actually have a few issues and have been found to be largely ineffective.

The immobilization of the spine can lead to atrophy of the surrounding muscles. Muscles need movement and use in order to grow or remain healthy. A hard brace prevents the muscles from being used, which causes them to weaken and shrink. Also, without movement, joints can develop even more degenerative issues that can’t be reversed simply by taking the brace off.

So first off, consult with a scoliosis chiropractor in Arizona to see which option is right for you.
